K-Pop Idol Search Shifts to Mainstream Television
April 22, 2015 marked the official launching of KISPinoy: The K-Pop Philippination, a reality talent search that aims to discover young and talented Filipino K-Pop performers. Matthew Choi, the show's founder and producer, believed that the Filipino is the next K-Pop superstar.
Aspiring contestants from the thousands who auditioned will battle it out not only to compete for a multi-million dollar recording and talent management contract and training in South Korea, but also to gain stature in the Asian and global music industry. KISPinoy will start airing on June 2015 on TV5, but last year it was supposed to air on the government-owned People's Television channel 4. Why did the producers decide to move the idol search to mainstream television?
I believe that the answer is in the eyes of the television viewers who are awaiting for PTV's next move after announcing that it will air KISPinoy by the third or fourth quarter of 2014, but it never materialized. For me, the answer to the question I have mentioned is just a simple reason. People's Television does not have enough capacity or capability to run such an entertaining program, considering that it is a government-owned station but many viewers are not able to watch the channel due to poor signal reception in their area. But since YU&IQ Entertainment Inc. decided to shift the search to TV5, I think that this shift is a good idea since it has all the right needs for a delightful and entertaining alternative programming grid.
Anyway, this does not matter as the K-Pop industry continues to prosper in the global scene and KISPinoy will drive more K-Pop superstars from young and energetic Filipino aspirants. Auditions are still ongoing and it is open to Filipinos 13 years old and above. For more information about the show, click here.
