Fight of the Century Wins Big in TV Ratings

Battle for Greatness

Many Filipinos have tuned in to the fight of the century between Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr., although they were disappointed at the outcome of the fight and its even interesting aftermath about the Pacman's shoulder injury. While thousands survive the heat in free public viewing areas, most prefer watching the delayed free TV airing of the MayPac bout at home. And it seems that ABS-CBN wins big when it comes to television ratings.

Based on data from Kantar Media, more viewers have watched the free TV telecast of Battle for Greatness on ABS-CBN, knocking out other TV networks in television ratings. The MayPac bout on ABS-CBN gained an average national TV rating of 24%, which is four points higher than the 20% rating of its rival network GMA 7. Meanwhile, the main event of the fight viewing on ABS-CBN peaked at a high rating of 26.7% beating its rival networks in their respective airings.

The successful and highly engaging Isang Laban para kay Pacman campaign has ended garnering more than a hundred million punches from those clicking the digital punching bag at the campaign site and uploading videos doing Pacman's pose. But these punches are not enough for Manny to win the biggest fight of his career due to unexpected circumstances rather than just a unanimous decision. Nevertheless, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao remains a winner in the hearts of not just the Filipino nation, but boxing fans from all over the world. I would like to end this article with the official music video of Pacman's entrance theme during the Fight of the Century and ABS-CBN's war song for the People's Champion.

Again, MABUHAY KA, MANNY!!
