You may not have realize this, but News5 programs aired on both TV5 and its sister channel Aksyon TV are now in high definition since the end of Holy Week. This resulted in the presence of letterboxes in the Aksyon brand of newscasts, simulcast Radyo5 programs, and even the recently reformatted Saturday afternoon public affairs program T3 Alliance.
This means that the happy network's news and information arm is now taking advantage of high-definition technology. As I remember, TV5 has been using its state-of-the-art HD cameras first on its primetime dramas, followed by several PBA games and shows produced by Sports5.
This is very effective for those who are not happy with what they are watching on their television sets because of their tube's unoptimized screen resolution. News5's unexpected move is part of the network's gradual transition to digital terrestrial television which is still under test broadcast until now.
Now that we have seen everything that shows the network's capacity to do the impossible, what is next? Well, we'll just wait and see.
